Dameli is a member of the Dardic branch of the Indo-Aryan language family. It is spoken by about 6,000 people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in the northwest Pakistan. In particular, it is spoken in the Domel Valley in the Lower Chitral District in the northwest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Dameli is also known as Damia, Damɛ̃ḍī, Dāmia bāṣa or Gidoj, and Dameli speakers call their language دمیلی (damīya) or دمیا باشا (dāmya bāṣa). It is spoken by people of ages, and there is no sign of shifting to other languages. Dameli is written with the Perso-Arabic script, usually in the Nastaliq style.
