Sudest is a Western Oceanic language spoken by about 2,000 people on Sudest Island in Milne Bay Province of Papua New Guinea, particularly in the Yama-Yele district in the west of Sudest Island.
Sudest means 'southeast' in Italian and French, and is also known as Tagula, Vanatïna or Vanatina. The people who speak Sudest call their language Vanatɨna, and they call themselves raravanatina. Sudest Island is also known as Tagula or Vanatinai. Dialects of Sudest include Pamela, Eastern Point, Rambuso, Rewa, Griffin Point and Jelewaga.
Sudest was first documented in the late 19th century, and various was to write it with the Latin alphabet were developed.
