Gapapaiwa is member of the Western Oceanic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It has about 3,000 speakers in the Makamaka District in the northwest of Milne Bay Province in the southeast of Papua New Guinea. In particular, it is spoken in the villages of Koyabagira, Giwa, Kiibogibogimo, Abuaro, Menapi, Yoguba, Banapa and Dabora on the south coast of the Cape Vogel peninsula on Goodenough Bay.
Gapapaiwa is also known as Gapa, Manape or Paiwa. Dialects include Gapa and Paiwa, and it is closely related to Ghayavi. Gapapaiwa can be written with the Latin alphabet.

One day, in Urawa, a man went hunting with his brother-in-law and their dogs chased a wallaby so that it really ran until it fell into a sinkhole and died. The sinkhole was named Wanakenama. It went down so deep that the two of them were not able to go down inside it.
