Romani Tatar is a Kipchak Turkic language spoken by about 640 Tatar Roma people in Bulgaria and Romania. In particular, it is spoken in the Balchik (Балчик) and Dobrich (Добрич) in Dobrich Province in the northeast of Bulgaria, and in the Medgidia and Constanța in Constanța County in the southeast of Romania. Historically, this region was known as Dobruja.
Romani Tatar is also known as Tatar, or Tatarja on Romani Tatar. It is similar to Nogai Tatar with influences from Gagauz and Turkish, and some Romani vocabulary and sounds. It can be written with the Latin alphabet using a spelling system proposed by the Tatar Roma community.
