Waskia is a member of the Madang branch of the Trans-New-Guinea language family. It is spoken by about 20,000 people in Madang Province in the north east of Papua New Guinea. In particular, it is spoken on Karkar Island off the north coast of mainland Papua New Guinea, and in the village of Tokain in Malas Ward in the Sumgilbar Rural LLG on the nearby coast of the mainland.
Waskia is also known as Vaskia or Woskia. It is written with the Latin alphabet, and parts of the Bible have been translated into the language.
