Cavineña is a Tacanan language spoken by about 600 people in the Beni Department in northern Bolivia. In particular, it is spoken along the Beni River mainly in and around Reyes, a municipality in José Ballivián Province, and also in Riberalta in the Vaca Díez Province, in the northwest of the Beni Department. Cavineña is considered endangered as most speakers are adults. Few children are acquiring the language and are more likely to speak Spanish.
Cavineña is also known as Cavinena, Cavineño, Caviña, Kavinenya, Kabina, Kavinya, Kabineño or Kabineña. It is recognised as an official indigenous language in Bolivia. There are several ways to write Cavineña with the Latin alphabet, and there is a version of the Bible in Cavineña.
