Saari (Sari)

Saari is a member of the Eastern Benoid branch of the Southern Bantoid language family. It is spoken by about 7,600 Besaa (Bɛsaa) people in North West Region of Cameroon. In particular, it is spoken in the villages of Akweto, Kamine and Mbissa in the commune of Misaje in the west of the Donga-Mantung Department in the north of the North West Region. There are also some speakers of Saari in other parts of Cameroon, especially in the South West Region.

Saari is also known as Sari, Sali, Nsari, Pesaa or Akweto. It is closely related to Noni, which is also spoken in the North West Region of Cameroon. A way to write Saari with the Latin alphabet was proposed by Aku Julius Eyoh and Robert Hedinger of SIL in 2006. Other orthographies are available.

Translation

The Sari (Besaah) people originated from Nigeria. They settled in Kamine. Their father's name was Neh. It is the only name of his wife that the elders have ever known. He gave birth to three sons. Kami, Kinching and Mbeeme. They came and settled at a place in Kamine called Lembeeme.
