Kedang is a member of Flores-Lembata branch of the Central-Eastern group of Malayo-Polynesian languages. It is spoken by about 30,000 people in the Kedang region in the northeast of Lembata Island, one of the Lesser Sunda Islands in the Lembata Regency of East Nusa Tenggara Province in eastern Indonesia.
Kedang is also known as Kdang, Kedangese or Dang. It is named after the region where it is spoken. Kedang speakers call their language tutuq nanang wela ("language of the mountain"). It is quite closely related to Lamaholot, which is spoken on Lembata and on nearby islands.
