Liangmai is a member of the Zemeic group of the Kuki-Chin branch of the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is spoken by about 49,800 people in Nagaland and Manipur in the northeast of India. In particular, it is spoken in the Tamei subdivision in north of the Tamenglong district in northern Manipur, and also in the Senapati, Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts in northern Manipur, and in the Peren distict in the southwest of Nagaland.
Liangmai is also known as Liangmei, Liyang, Lyangma, Lyengmai, Liangmai Naga, Kacha or Kwoireng. Liangmai speakers call their language Lianglad. It is closely related to Zeme, Inpui and Rongmei, which are spoken in nearby areas. Liangmai is officially recognised by the State Government of Manipur, and is used as a medium of instruction in some schools. It was considered endangered in 2002, however since then, the number of Liangmai speakers has increased.

Once upon a time, there was a boy in a village whose mother died when he was still very young. After the death of his mother, his father remarried a beautiful girl from the same village. However, she did not take good care of the boy. On the contrary, she treated him cruelly and forced him to work like a slave in the house. The father could not do anything for his son as he was totally under the control of his wife.
