Nga La is a Southern Kuki-Chin language spoken by about 30,000 people mainly in Matupi Township in Matupi District in the south of Chin State in western Myanmar. There are also speakers of Nga La in Mizoram in the northeast of India.
Nga La is also known as Matu Chin, Chin Matu, Matupi, Thlan Tan or Matupi Chin. Dialects include Ngala, Ciing, Doem, Nguitu, Hlangpang, Haltu, Ta'aw, Tuivang, Matu Dai and Weilaung. It is closely related to Rawngtu Chin and Thaiphum (Chin), which are spoken in nearby parts of Chin State. A way to write Nga La with the Latin alphabet was devised by Rev. Johnson and Rev. Ngai Tim in 1954.
