Dilling is a member of the Eastern Sudanic branch of the Nilo-Saharan language family. It is spoken by about 13,000 people in the Nuba Mountains in the state of South Kordofan in south of Sudan, particularly in the town of Dilling (الدلنج) and the surrounding area. It is spoken mainly by older adults and is considered moribund as is it no longer passed on to children. Younger people are more likely to speak Sudanese Arabic.
Dilling is also known as Delen or Warkimbe, and Dilling speakers call their language and themselves Warki. Dilling is also spoken by the Debri people, who live on Gebel Debri, a mountain south of Ghulfan, and have their own dialect of the language. It can be written with the Latin alphabet, and there appear to be several spelling systems.
