Mpade is a member of the Biu-Mandara branch of the Chadic language family. It has about 16,000 speakers mainly in Cameroon, and also in Chad. In particular, it is spoken in and around Makari, Fotokol, Hilé Alifa and Goulfey in the Logone-et-Chari department in the Far North Region of Cameroon, and in Mani in the Hadjer-Lamis in the southwest of Chad.
Mpade is also known as Makari, Makary, Makary Kotoko, Mpadə or Mpadɨ. Dialect include Bodo, Biamo, Digam, Mpade (Makari), Shoe (Shewe) and Woulki. It is written with the Latin alphabet, although few Mpade speakers are literate in their language.
