Dza is a member of the Bambukic branch of the Altantic-Congo language family. It has about 100,000 speakers along the northern bank of the Benue River in eastern Nigeria. It is spoken particularly in the Ardo-Kola, Bali, Gassol, Ibi, Jalingo, Karmin-Lamido and Lau Local Goverment Areas (LGAs) in Taraba State.
The places with the largest concentration of Dza speakers are the city of Jalingo, and the town of Dza and surrounding villages in the north of Taraba State. There are also speakers of Dza in the Balanga and Akko LGAs in Gombe State, and in the Numan and Lamurde LGAs in Adamawa State. Dza is spoken mainly by adults, while children are shifting to Hausa, or other languages.
Dza is also known as Jen, Jenjo or Janjo, and the people who speak it are known as Jenjo. They call their language nnwa' dzâ and themselves èédzá or ídzà. Dialects of Dza include Nwabang, Dzahah and Ye.
