How to count in Seimat, an Oceanic language spoken in Manus Province in northern Papua New Guinea.
Classifiers are used with numbers depending on what is being counted. They are combined with the numbers, which are abbreviated. For example: 1 person = tel seilon, 2 houses = hũhũa seilon, 3 houses = tolu seilon, 1 dog = tok sinen, 2 dogs = hũok sinen, 3 dogs = toluok sinen, 1 tree = tea pata, 2 trees = hũa pata, 3 trees = tolua pata.
Nasal vowels can also be written with a colon before them: :a = ã.
If any of the numbers are links, you can hear a recording by clicking on them. If you can provide recordings, please contact me.
