Mnong (Bu Nong / ឞូន៝ង)

Mnong is a member of the South Bahnaric branch of the Austroasiatic language family. It is spoken by about 130,000 people in southern Vietnam and eastern Cambodia. In Vietnam it is spoken mainly in the Central Higlands Region (Tây Nguyên), particularly in the districts of Đăk Song, Đăk Mil, Đăk R'Lấp, Krông Nô and Gia Nghĩa in Đắk Nông Province, and also in Đắk Lắk, Lâm Đồng and Bình Phước provinces. In Cambodia, Mnong is spoken mainly in Mondulkiri province (មណ្ឌលគិរី).

Mnong is also known as M'nong, Pnong or Bunong, and speakers of Mnong call their language Bu Nong in Vietnam, and ឞូន៝ង (bunong) in Cambodia. There are four mayor varieties or dialects: Central Mnong, Eastern Mong, South Mnong in Vietnam, and Kraol in Cambodia. These are classified as separate languages in some sources, and they are not mutually intelligible.

Mnong is written with the Latin script in Vietnam, and with the Khmer script in Cambodia.
