Kogi is a member of the Arwako branch of the Chibchan language family. It is spoken by about 9,900 people in the Sierra Nevada de Santa mountain range in northern Colombia. In particular, it is spoken in the north of the Department of Magdalena and in the south of La Guajira Department. The majority of the Kogi people are monolingual in their language, and they are the only unconquered Andean civilization.
Kogi is also known as Kogui, Kouguian, Cogui, Coghui, Kagaba, Cágaba or Kággaba. It can be written with the Latin alphabet, and there is a Kogi translation of the New Testament of the Bible.
