The Yapiri Script was created by Animesh Debbarma as a new script for Kokborok, a Brahmaputran language spoken mainly in Tripura in the northeast of India. Animesh is a native speaker of Kokborok who believes that his script does a better job of representing the phonology of Kokborok than the Bengali script, which is used in official contexts, or the Latin alphabet, which is also used for Kokborok.
Yapiri has separate letters for all the sounds of Kokborok, which are represent by digraphs in other scripts. Other Kokborok speakers who have tried using Yapiri for their language have responded well to it, and find the phonemic logic more natural than anything available before.
