Tehreek-istani

Tehreek-istani is an alternative way to write Urdu devised by Willem, who has always thought that the Arabic script is not well-suited for Urdu. It is designed to represent Urdu in a compact way, and was inspired by the Korean script, and also from the Japanese and Arabic scripts.

Notable features

Type of writing system: alphabets
Writing direction: right to left in horizontal lines, or top to bottom in vertical columns running from right to left.
Used to write: Urdu (اردو), and could be adapted to write other languages.
It is written in blocks.
The words are written the way they are in standard urdu, except when there isn't an appropriate letter (e.g ئ), then it is best to write it without that letter.
It gives the writer full freedom of how they want to arrange the letter in a single block. One example is shown at the bottom.
It has an option between adding a [Isolation] letter to the word if there is just one letter in the block at the end, or just leave it as it is.
The letter representing 'e' can be written on the left side border for the whole block as it only is written at the end of a word or written separately. There are no diacritic marks.
There is no distinction between the long vowels آ and ا, they are written the same.

Transliteration (Urdu script)

تمام انسان آزاد اور حقوق و عزت کے اعتبار سے برابر پیدا ہوۓ ہیں۔ انہیں ضمیر اور عقل ودیعت ہوئی ہے۔ اسلیۓ انہیں ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ بھائی چارے کا سلوک کرنا چاہیۓ۔

Transliteration (Latin alphabet)

Tamām insān āzād ôr ḥuqūq-o ʿizzat ke ėʿtibār se barābar peidā hū'e heiṅ. Inheṅ żamīr ôr ʿaql vadīʿat hū'ī he. Isli'e inheṅ ek dūsre ke sāth bhā'ī čāre kā sulūk karnā čāhi'e.

Translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
