Astanari

Astanari was created in 2023 by Josh Holliday as a means to impose a foreign yet subtly familiar look onto the English language for a worldbuilding project. Its characters are Frankenstein's monsters formed from segments of serif characters from the Latin alphabet and various punctuation marks. Its vowels and pronunciation are based on Australian English phonology (AuE).

Direction of writing: left to right then from top to bottom in horizontal rows.
Used to write: English
Long and short vowels share the same glyphs and are differentiated by a diacritic
Select diphthongs are represented by glyphs formed by merging their component vowels
Most punctuation marks have start-of-sentence and end-of-sentence versions, and function similarly to Spanish question marks
