I can't think of a single plausible change for that so I'm just going to say lowering.

I think we should start with a new word now. We can pretty much raise, lower, front, back, round, unround, split and merge the vowel and change the consonants' articulation and voicing and that's about it which will end up repeating over and over.

Can you recognise this character?
Nope, it's not shāng. It is a 囧 with a hat which 囧ed its chin off!
