Ese Ejja (Eseʼejja)

Ese Ejja is a Tacanan language spoken by about 1,500 people mainly along the Madre de Dios and Beni rivers and their tributaries in northern Bolivia and southern Peru. In particular, it is spoken in José Ballivián and Vaca Diez provinces in Beni Department, in Madre de Dios Province in Pando Department and in La Paz Department in Bolivia, and in the departments of Madre de Dios and Puno in Peru.

Ese Ejja is also known as Ese'eha, Ese'exa, Ese exa, Tiatinagua, Tatinawa, Chama or Huarayo. Dialects include Madidi, Sonene and Baawaja. It is written with the Latin alphabet. In some areas, people of all ages speak Ese Ejja, however in others, children are more likely to speak Spanish.
