Bungku is a member of the Celebic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 22,000 people in Sulawesi in Indonesia, particularly in the Bungku Selatan, Bungku Tengah and Bungku Utara sub-districts of Central Sulawesi province, and in the Asera, Soropia and Lasolo sub-districts of Southeast Sulawesi province.
Bungku is also known as Ikinyikiusa, Tamboeko, Tambuku or Tobuco. Dialects include Bungku, Routa, Tulambatu, Torete, Landawe and Waia.
