Here’s a recording in a mystery language.
Do you know, or can you guess, the language?
These quizzes are normally published every Sunday, and the answers are given the following Saturday here in the comments.
If you need a clue, listen to or read the Omniglot News on Radio Omniglot.
A very hard decision. Sounds somewhat like a southeast Asian language and some reason I also think I hear either something from the Philippines or from the Pacific Northwest of North America. Difficult indeed!
I thought I heard several sentences begin with /al ‘la/ or /hal ‘la/. is there a possibility this is an Islamic religious text?
It is a religious text, but not Islamic.
Is it perhaps Avestan?
I don’t think that it is Austronesian (Philippines) or Iranian (Avestan) … I am going for Native North American.
The mystery language is Chaura (Sanënyö), a Nicobarese language spoken mainly on Chowra Island in the Indian union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
