  1. It sounds very much like Finnish. I can hear something like kiitos sinulle = thanks to you. But seeing this is Omniglot, it might not be just any old Finnish.

  2. Kvääni! Sort of a Norwegian variety of Finnish. I learn Finnish and just like Drabkikker I quickly realized this one sounded very close, enough to be at least kind of a language not always, but still often considered separate from Finnish. I narrowed my choice down to Meänkieli vs Kvääni and began to look for the song. There it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvJL4KhLPHg

Sorry for spoiling the fun that soon

  3. I listened to this before anyone else had commented this morning but didn’t have the time to write anything down. I thought it was either something Asian because of the sounds or something Finno-Ugric. Glad I waited and even though I couldn’t get the exact language I am glad I was in the ballpark!

  4. Many thanks, Emanuel. The reply from “Vyrpenz” was not showing when I posted, for some reason. He/she expresses sorrow for “spoiling the fun” and then goes ahead and does so anyway!
    Elen síla lúmenn’ omentielvo.

  5. Well, one of Tolkein’s Elvish languages, Quenya, was based on Finnish.

The language is Kven (Kainun kieli), a Finnic language spoken in northern Norway.

    The recording comes from YouTube
