Pacoh is a member of the Katuic branch of the Austroasiatic language family spoken. It is spoken by about 32,000 people mainly in central Vietnam, and also in Laos. In Vietnam, it is spoken particularly in the A-Lưới valley and in other parts of Huế province, and also in Quảng Trị province. In Laos, Pacoh speakers can be found in Salavan province in the south of the county.
Pacoh is also known as Paco, Pokoh or Bo River Van Kieu. Speakers of Pacoh call their language Pacóuh, which means 'people of the mountain'. It is written with the Latin script in Vietnam using a spelling system developed in the 1960s and based on Vietnamese spelling. In Laos it can be written with the Lao script.
