Kupa is member of the Nupoid branch of the Volta-Niger language family. It is spoken in the states of Kogi and Kwara in the southwest of Nigeria. In particular, it is spoken in and around the villages of Kupa and Eggan, and in the Lokoja Local Government Area in the south of Kogi State
Kupa is closely related to the Kakanda language, which is spoken in the same area. It can be written with the Latin alphabet.
