Nederlands

I’ve decided to learn Dutch this month and want to see how much I can learn in a month. I haven’t learnt any Dutch before, but can understand it a bit as I speak English and German. I’m using online resources, including courses on Babbel and any others I can find. I will also be listening to Dutch radio and maybe watching some Dutch TV, and maybe learning some Dutch songs. A friend is also learning Dutch this month, so I thought I’d give it a try, and we have a Dutch friend we can practise with.

Any suggestions of online Dutch resources would be appreciated.

  1. Here is a good link for vocabulary learning: http://www.heardutchhere.net/vocabulary.html . slightly chaotic, but has a lot of info.

Internet Polyglot is a good site also for vocabulary.

Here is one for lessons that is halfway decent: http://www.learndutch.nu/

Also, there are some good flash card decks on the Anki site: the one called “Dutch-English” (at the site https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/3857920128 ) is the best one I have found but there are also others. You have to download the Anki flash card program but it is free (open-source, donations encouraged) and excellent.

  2. With respect to the Anki Flash cards, I have found the best way to use them is to suspend all the cards in the deck and then unsuspend them one by one (that is, make them available for rotation in the queue) as you come across words that interest you, are of utility to you, or you have come across in other study or listening.
