Where in the world?

Here’s a photo from another mystery city. Can you identify the city and tell us which languages are spoken there?

Where in the world?

This city is apparently one of the oldest in Central Asia.

  1. I’ll be first and venture the guess of Samarkand. It’s is located in Uzbekistan, so I would logically conclude that the languages spoken there would be predominantly Uzbek and Russian.

  2. According to Wikipedia, the most spoken language in Samarkand is actually Tajik. So as for all the languages spoken in the city, I’ll say Tajik, Uzbek, and Russian.

  3. It’s Tashkent (Uzbek: Тошкент, Russian: Ташкент) – well guessed Jonathan. The main languages spoken there are Uzbek and Russian. The building in the photo is the Prince Romanov Palace, which is currently used as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  4. What a great surprise to see pictures of my city. Well as for Tashkent, we speak here Uzbek and Russian, and in Samarkand, people predominantly speak Tajik, but their Tajik is somewhat different from the official language of Tajikistan.
