Here’s a recording in a mystery language.
Do you know, or can you guess the language?
If you need a clue, listen to or read the Omniglot News on Radio Omniglot.
These quizzes are normally published every Sunday, and the answers are given the following Saturday here in the comments.
It has a definite Germanic “tone” and pronunciation but I also seem to hear a bit of Cerltic.
I agree with Hank regarding the Germanic “tone”. Perhaps something Scandinavian?
Hmm. There seem to be some ejectives, but no obvious part of the world springs to mind. Perhaps something in the Ethiopic realm? Or Caucasian?
I think it’s Oneida.
Is it perhaps Swabian German?
No, I don’t think so Hank. I lived for two years near Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg but don’t understand anything in that recording. If Germanic, I’d go for Nynorsk or something like that but Sam Fox could be on the right track!
The mystery language is Halkomelem (Halq̓eméylem), a Central Salishan language spoken in British Colombia in Canada, and in Washington State in the USA.
