Language quiz 10 November 2013 By Simon Here’s a recording in a mystery language. Can you identify the language, and do you know where it’s spoken?
I’d say this is Rusyn but which of the many dialects I’m not so sure. It sounds influenced by Polish so I’d got for Lemko. Reply
Sounds like Ukrainian to me. But then I don’t know the details of Ruthenian or other related speech varieties, and it might possibly be one of them… Reply
The answer is Rusyn (русиньский язык / русиньска бесїда), an East Slavic language spoken in Slovakia, Serbia, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic. The recording comes from the GRN. Reply
