Language Quiz 8 March 20268 March 2026 By Simon Here’s a recording in a mystery language. http://www.omniglot.com/soundfiles/blog/quiz080326.mp3 Do you know, or can you guess, the language?
I think it is a non-tonal language from the area of southeast Asia. I hear some sounds that I associate with Vietnamese. Reply
Agree on southeast Asia, probably Viet-Muong. I think it’s also a Christian text. I thought I heard [jɛ ‘su:]. Reply
I’ll jump on the Mnong bandwagon! It sounds too close to Vietnamese to me to be any other branch of Austroasiatic, but I don’t know any other Vietic languages. Reply
