  1. All I can imagine is Pashto, but I think that’s most probably wrong. Still, it definitely sounds like something from North India or the surrounding areas.

  2. Sounds like a language from the Caucasus like Ossetian or Chechen but I am guessing and far from confident.

  3. I too want to place it in Northern India or thereabouts. I first thought of Kashmiri, but the quality of the recording calls for something more exotic. For lack of better ideas I may just as well stay in the Dardic sub-family, and since I hear retroflexes, nasal vowels and voiced sibilants, I’ll say Kalashi.

  4. Wondered if it could be an Indonesian language with the “di-” passive marker, but it’s not any of the common ones.

  5. The answer is Konkani (कोंकणी / Konknni / ಕೊಂಕಣಿ / കൊങ്കണി / كونكڼى), an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the Indian states of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra.

The recording comes from the GRN.

  6. Didn’t get to this until now, but hearing ek and mujhe certainly made me think “OK, this has to be something pretty close to Hindi”.
