Here’s a recording in two mystery languages – we didn’t have a language quiz last week because I was away on holiday in Scotland and didn’t have time to set it up, so we have a bonus language this week.
Do you know, or can you guess, the languages? They are related, by the way.
I’d say these languages are spoken in the Indian subcontinent or close by, perhaps they are Indo-Iranian … there seem to be some Arabic loanwords present. Can’t say more at the moment.
I agree with Emanuel. I certainly heard a retroflex R which I always have associated with languages from India. Other than that it’s going to take a little while to figure things out.
Is the first possibly Dogri and the second something closely akin to it?
The languages are
Assamese (অসমীয়া), an Eastern Indo-Aryan language spoken in India, Bangladesh and Bhutan, and Sylheti (ছিলটী), and Eastern Indo-Aryan language spoken in Bangladesh and India.
