Language quiz

Here’s a song in multiple languages– it’s a multilingual version of ‘Let it Go’ from the film Frozen sung by Richard Simcott at the Polyglot Gathering in Berlin. He sang it a capella and from memory – very impressive. The sound quality isn’t great, but it’s okay.

Can you identify the different languages?

  1. I hear English, Spanish, French, German, and Mandarin. I think there may be Russian, Italian, and at least one Scandinavian language. There are more I can’t identify,

  2. I’ve listened to multilingual versions of ‘Let It Go’ before so I kind of have a leg up. Here’s what I recognize now: English, French, German, Mandarin, something, Japanese, Spanish, something, Hungarian maybe, Spanish, Italian, something, Portuguese, Russian, one or two Scandinavian languages, French, something else. I assume from previous versions that the multiple instances of French and Spanish are different dialects but I can’t distinguish them here.

  3. What BG lists as “one or two Scandinavian languages” is actually four languages. I managed to identify Danish and Norwegian. So the sequence is …Danish, something, Norwegian, something….

I also heard something between Mandarin and Japanese that might have been Swedish. There were several instances of a very Swedish sounding [ɶ̝ːr], but I couldn’t make out a single word.

  4. I find this one difficult because the parts in any one language are so short.
