Uchinaaguchi (Okinawan). I recognized it as a Japanese relative, and him saying “Ryukyuan language” in Japanese helped as well. Googling for the greeting in the beginning brought me to Okinawan.
You’re right – that was too easy! The answer is Okinawan (沖縄口 / Uchinaaguchi), a Ryukyuan language spoken in Okinawa, Japan
