Moving home

I’ll be leaving Brighton tomorrow and moving to Bangor. I’ve spent the past few days packing, and getting rid of things I no longer need, and still have far too much stuff, especially books.

The plan is to set off tomorrow morning at around 7am, and to stop at an IKEA on the way to buy some furniture for the new house. So I should arrive in Bangor sometime tomorrow afternoon (it’s just over 300 miles from Brighton).

Unfortunately my broadband connection probably won’t be working for a week or three – not sure why it takes so long to set up – and I’ll have to rely on dial-up until then. So posts on this blog may become somewhat sporadic for a while.

  1. Good luck Simon,
It must be exciting for you. Just think how well you will be speaking Welsh say this time next year. I am moving to Catalonia next summer and I am really looking forward to speaking good Catalan within a few years. At the moment, I can talk about most things in it but pretty slowly and with a lot mistakes.
Anyway, I hope it all goes well.

  2. Good luck to you on moving, be safe.

Say, you wouldn’t bne interested in sending me some of your books would you? (Joking, and half serious, I LOVE books.)

    But do be safe!

    Come back soon!

  3. I feel for you. I’ll be moving over 600 miles in a little less than a month. Good luck with everything.

  4. so you’re moving to Northern Ireland eh? Beautiful place. I hope you’ll enjoy your new house and environment, and the language of course! Good luck on the way, and see (read) you soon!

  5. Caenwyr – it’s Bangor in North Wales that I’ve moved to, not Bangor, County Down.

Provi – I’m not planning to reduce the size of my library andy further for now. It’s still too big though, especially the language section, and there’s never enough shelf space.

  6. Ah, sorry about the mistake. Now I understand why you recently joined a Welsh workshop ;-). Well, most of what I said remains! Lots of luck in your new home!

  7. Well, at leasxt you won’t be all that far away from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllandysiliogogogoch…. 🙂

  8. All the best in the new place Simon – shame you’re leaving Brighton. Think the pace of life yng Ngogledd Cymru will be a little more relaxed compared to Brighton. And those Snowdonian mountains are a tad higher than the Downs!

Pob lwc yn y ty newydd.

  9. Good luck!
I’ve never moved more than five miles, but I have been in the Bangor region before. It’s gorgeous and the people, amicable. Enjoy yourself and the town. I hear it’s wonderful.
    Again, Good Luck

  10. Interesting–when I first saw “moving home,” I found myself wondering if you were moving back to somewhere you previously lived! If I said “moving home,” people might think I was moving back to my parents’ place. 😉 I’ve seen “moving house” before (which still conjures up silly images of a double-wide being driven down the highway…see if that gives you enough American vocabulary to look up! 😉 ), but never “moving home” in that sense…

  11. As an aspiring omniglot, normally I’d comment on your use of language. I often do, of course not on “your” use of language but of those pedants who fixate on particular grammatical rules. However in this case, a suggestion, don’t stop at Ikea – it will add hours/days to your journey, those tortuous paths through the store are most inefficient shopping routes known to man (or woman). Arrive where you are heading, re-evaluate the space, then order from an Argos/other catalogue for home delivery.

From the department of giving advice too late 🙂
