  1. My first impression: some – possibly indigenous North American – language rendered by a speaker with North American English as his first language. There are nasal vowels so this could also be ‘something French’. The quality of the recording is not too good though, so I am not sure of any of this …

  2. I agree with Emanuel in its being an indigenous North American language. I somewhat doubt that this is the first language of the speakers as they see to have a North American (English) accent. I am guessing it is from the western plains of Canada and has something to do with the culture of the Métis from which there came an French influence.

  3. Maybe it’s Cayuga, once spoken in Ontario, New York and Oklahoma, now in the process of being revived.
(I am following a clue from Simon on Radio Omniglot here.)

  4. If I recall correctly, “pi” indicates the plural in Lakota, which also has nasal sounds, so my guess is a Siouan language.

  5. The mystery language is Unami / Lenape, an Eastern Algonquian language that was historically spoken in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware in the USA., and later in Ontario and Oklahoma. It is currently being revived.
