  1. Chibi says:

    Albanian? Maybe…?

  2. Matthias says:

    A wild guess: Romanian?

  3. Halabund says:

It’s not Romanian. Romanian is a Romance language. I’d also have guessed Albanian.

  4. Trevor says:

My guess was Albanian… I tried to think of what it was before listening to the clip, just based on the clues, and Albanian was the only European language I thought of, and when I heard the clip the voice sounded very European to me.

  5. Aaron says:

    Is it Basque?

  6. TJ says:

ummm Basque or Greek I would say
but unfortunately I’ve never heard Albanian before so I can’t put it on my list :)

  7. TJ says:

It’s about Sudan and Darfur right?

  8. Alain Vaillancourt says:

    Sounds like Finnish.

  9. TJ says:

Finnish is related to hungarian and also estonian and I think the three of them are somehow connected to turkish!

  10. Simon says:

The answer is … Albanian. Well guessed, Chibi, Halabund and Trevor.

TJ – the names Sudan and Darfur are mentioned, so it is most likely about them.

The clip comes from the BBC World Service.

sounds like Finnish? definitely not! Finnish sounds like an Elvish language :)
and yes Hungarian,Finnish and Estonian are related but we have nothing to do with the Turks as far as our languages concerned. The Turks just happened to occupy and stay in Hungary for about 150 years and before that in the distant past we were living next to each other on the wide prairies. So we Hungarians borrowed many words from Turkish languages but not our northern relatives. so if this means connection then yes we are connected :)
