[other meanings are available]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It comes from Middle Englsh <em>stable<\/em> (a building for horses), from Anglo-Norman <em>stable<\/em> (a place for keeping animals), from Latin <em>stablum<\/em> (dwelling, stable, hut, tavern), from <em>st\u014d<\/em> (to stand, stay, remain) and\u200e <em>-bulum<\/em> (instrumental suffix) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/stable#Etymology_1\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>In Old English, a <strong>stable<\/strong> was a <strong>horsern<\/strong> [\u02c8hor\u02e0z\u02ccer\u02e0n] (&#8220;horse place&#8221;) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/horsern#Old_English\">source<\/a>] or a <strong>steall<\/strong> [st\u00e6\u035c\u0251ll], from which we get the word <strong>stall<\/strong> (a compartment for a single animal in a stable or cattle shed) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/steall#Old_English\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>As an adjective <strong>stable<\/strong> means:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relatively unchanging, steady, permanent; firmly fixed or established; consistent; not easily moved, altered, or destroyed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It comes from Middle English <em>stable<\/em>, from Anglo-Norman <em>stable \/ stabel<\/em> (stable, firm), from Latin <em>stabilis<\/em> (firm, steadfast), from <em>st\u014d<\/em> (to stand, stay, remain) and <em>-abilis<\/em> (able). It displaced the Old English word for stable, <em>sta\u00feolf\u00e6st<\/em> [\u02c8st\u0251.\u00f0ol\u02ccf\u00e6st] [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/stable#Etymology_2\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>So it seems that these two words do come from the same roots.
