So <strong>twilight<\/strong> means \u2018second\/half light\u2019 [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/twilight#English\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>There are three different kinds of <strong>twilight<\/strong>: <strong>astronomical twilight<\/strong>, <strong>civil twilight<\/strong> and  <strong>nautical twilight<\/strong> [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_hour\">source<\/a>]. The difference between them involves how far the sun is below the horizon [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Twilight\">source<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>Twilight is also known as the <strong>blue hour<\/strong>, a calque of the French term <strong>heure bleue<\/strong> as the sky become a deep blue during twilight. [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_hour\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>In French it is also known as <strong>entre chien et loup<\/strong> (\u201cbetween dog and wolf\u201d) &#8211; a calque of the Latin <em>inter canem et lupum<\/em>, which means the same thing &#8211;  because at twilight the difference between a dog and a wolf is not clear.  [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/entre_chien_et_loup\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Another word for twilight, used in northern England and Scotland, is <strong>gloaming<\/strong>, from Old English <strong>gl\u014dm<\/strong> (gloom, twilight, darkness) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/gloaming#English\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The prefix <strong>twi-<\/strong> appears in other English words, although few are currently used.
