the whole lot; all together; as one\u201d It first appeared in writing in the 1830s as <strong>the whole boodle<\/strong>, and as <strong>the whole caboodle<\/strong> in 1848 [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/caboodle\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caboodle\/kaboodle<\/strong> comes from <strong>boodle<\/strong>,which originally meant a crowd, and later phony money or swag, from Dutch <strong>boedel<\/strong> [\u02c8bu.d\u0259l] (property, riches), from Proto-West-Germanic <em>b\u014d\u00fel<\/em> (house, dwelling, property), from Proto-Germanic <em>*b\u014d\u00fel\u0105<\/em> [\u02c8b\u0254\u02d0\u03b8.l\u0251\u0303] (house, dwelling), possibly from PIE <em>*b\u02b0uH-<\/em> (to become, appear, grow) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/boodle#English\">source<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>Words from the same roots include <strong>baile<\/strong> (home, place, town, city) in Irish and Scottish Gaelic, <strong>balley<\/strong> (town, village, farm) in Manx, <strong>b\u00f3l<\/strong> (dwelling, abode, home, lair, bed) in Icelandic, and  <strong>bosky<\/strong> (bushy, bristling) in English [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European\/b%CA%B0uH-\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/HuIZLV4rFAc\">video<\/a> I made of this information:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TTjlIKPcCwM\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allow=\"accelerometer;
