This was replaced by <strong>circus<\/strong> in about the 14th century [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/hringsetl#Old_English\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>At first <strong>circus<\/strong> referred to ancient Roman ampitheatres or buildings used for chariot races.
