[<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%CF%84%CE%AD%CF%87%CE%BD%CE%B7#Ancient_Greek\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p><em>-\u03bb\u03bf\u03b3\u03af\u03b1<\/em> comes from <em>\u03bb\u03cc\u03b3\u03bf\u03c2<\/em> [l\u00f3.\u0261os] (word, sentence, speech), from <em>\u03bb\u03ad\u03b3\u03c9<\/em> [l\u00e9.\u0261\u0254\u02d0] (I say, speak, arrange, gather), from the PIE <em>*le\u01f5-<\/em> (to gather, collect), which is the root of such English words as <strong>collect<\/strong>, <strong>dialect<\/strong>, <strong>elect<\/strong>, <strong>intellect<\/strong>, <strong>legion<\/strong> and <strong>legend<\/strong> [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/-%CE%BB%CE%BF%CE%B3%CE%AF%CE%B1#Ancient_Greek\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The Latin word <em>leg\u014d<\/em> [\u02c8le.\u0261o] (I choose, select, collect, gather, read), also comes from the same PIE root, and from it we get words like <strong>leggere<\/strong> [\u02c8l\u025bd.d\u0361\u0292e.re] (to read) in Italian, <strong>lire<\/strong> [li\u0281] (to read) in French, and <strong>lesen<\/strong> [\u02c8le\u02d0zn\u0329] (to read, select, gather) in German [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/lego#Latin\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, the name <strong>Lego<\/strong>, as in the little plastic bricks, comes from a differnt source: the Danish phrase <strong>leg godt<\/strong> (\u201cplay well\u201d) &#8211;
