(<em>obsolete<\/em>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It comes from the Middle English <em>bouget\/bo(w)gett(e)<\/em> (leather pouch), from the Old French <em>bougette<\/em> [bu.\u0292\u025bt] (purse for carrying coins) a diminutive of <em>bouge<\/em> (sack, purse, small bag), from the Latin <em>bulga<\/em> [\u02c8bul.\u0261a] (knapsack, wallet, satchel, purse, womb), from the Gaulish <em>bolg\u0101<\/em> (sack, bag, stomach), from the Proto-Celtic <em>*bolgos<\/em> (sack, bag, stomach), from the PIE <em>*b\u02b0\u00f3l\u01f5\u02b0-o-s<\/em> (skin bag, bolster), from <em>*b\u02b0el\u01f5\u02b0-<\/em> (to swell) [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/budget#English\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Some words from the same Proto-Celtic root include <strong>bolg<\/strong> [\u02c8b\u02e0\u0254l\u02e0\u0259\u0261]  (belly, stomach, bag, bulge, bellows) in Irish, <strong>bol<\/strong> [b\u0254l] (belly, stomach, bowels, womb) in Welsh, and <strong>bolgh<\/strong> (breach, gap, opening) in Cornish [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic\/bolgos\">source<\/a>].
