E.g. \u65e5\u66dc\u65e5 (nichiy\u014dbi &#8211; Sunday), \u65e5\u3005 (hibi \/ nichinichi &#8211; daily), \u65e5\u9670 (hikage &#8211; shade, shadow, sunlight), \u65e5\u5916 (jitsugai &#8211; once, some time ago)<\/li>\n<li>\u672c (moto, hon) = origin, source, base, foundation, root, cause, ingredient, material; book, volume, script; counter for long cylindrical things. e.g. \u672c\u6728 (motoki &#8211; original stock<\/li>\n<li>\u8a9e (go) = word, language, speech<\/li>\n<li>\u8a9e\u308b (kataru) = to talk about, speak of, tell, narate, recite, chant, indicate, show<\/li>\n<li>\u65e5\u672c (nihon\/nippon) = Japan (\u201csun\u2019s origin\u201d) &#8211; nippon is used in official uses, such as on banknotes and stamps, while nihon is used in everyday speech.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Japan used to be called \u502d (wa) or \u502d\u570b (wakoku) in Chinese &#8211; a name first used in the 3rd century AD. \u502d means \u201cdwarf\u201d or \u201csubmissive\u201d. Later the Japanese changed the character \u502d to \u548c (peaceful, harmonious) and combined it with \u5927 (big, great) to form \u5927\u548c (yamato) or \u201cGreat Wa\u201d, which possibly originally referred to a place in Japan &#8211; \u5c71\u6238 (yamato) or \u201cMountain Gate\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u7d75\u6587\u5b57<\/strong> (emoji) = pictorial symbol, pictograph or pictogram.
