They might have originally meant something like \u2018descendents of the hidden one (the underworld deity)\u2019, and according to Julius Caesar, the Gauls claimed descent from an underworld god [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Celtae\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>In Breton, <strong>kuzh<\/strong> means secret and confidential, and <strong>kuzhat<\/strong> means to hide. They are cognate with the Welsh words <strong>cudd<\/strong> (concealment, secrecy) and <strong>cuddio<\/strong> (to hide, conceal), and the Cornish words <strong>kudh<\/strong> (concealed, hidden, secret) and <strong>kudha<\/strong> (to conceal, hide).
