Words from the same PIE root include <strong>callow<\/strong> in English, <strong>kaal<\/strong> (smooth, bland, plain, bald) in Dutch, and <strong>kahl<\/strong> (bald, hairless, barren) in German [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European\/gelH-\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Other words from the Proto-Celtic root <em>*gal\u0101<\/em> include <strong>gal<\/strong> (ardour, valour, fury) in Irish, <strong>gal<\/strong> (ardour, valour, fury, vapour, steam) in Scottish Gaelic,  <strong>gaal\/gall<\/strong> (vapour) in Manx, <strong>g\u00e2l<\/strong> (enemy, adversary) in Welsh, <strong>gal<\/strong> (outcast, villain) in Cornish, and <strong>gal<\/strong> (violent, intense, urgent) in Middle Breton [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic\/gal%C4%81\">source<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The Proto-Celtic word <em>*galnati<\/em> (to be able) comes from the same root.
