The <em>Bart<\/em> part means beard &#8211; you can see the connection &#8211; and the <em>Schnurr<\/em> part comes from <em>schnurren<\/em> (to purr). <\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schnurrbart\">Wikipedia<\/a>: &#8220;<em>Ein Schnurrbart ist ein \u00fcber der Oberlippe wachsender Bart.<\/em>&#8221; or &#8220;A moustache is an beard growing over the lip&#8221;, and it is also referred to as an <em>Oberlippenbart<\/em> (overlipbeard). A large moustache is called a <em>Schnauzbart<\/em> (Schnauze = lip, muzzle, snout). <\/p>\n<p>Other words used for moustache in German include <em>B\u00fcrste<\/em> (brush), <em>Schnauzer<\/em> (a type of dog), <em>Schnorres<\/em>, <em>Schnorrati<\/em>, <em>S\u00f6r<\/em>, <em>Rotzbremse<\/em> (&#8220;snot brake&#8221;) and <em>Popelf\u00e4nger<\/em> (&#8220;bogie catcher&#8221;).
