When I spotted it I thought at first that it was a typo, but have since discovered that it is used in logic to mean &#8220;if and only if&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Iff can also be represented by the following symbols: \u2194, \u21d4 or \u2261<\/p>\n<p>Quite a few other symbols are used in logic, and to some extent in linguistics textbooks on semantics and syntax. They include:<\/p>\n<p>\u21d2 \/ \u2192 \/ \u2283 = if &#8230; then<br \/>\n\u00ac \/ \u02dc = not<br \/>\n\u2295 \/ \u22bb = xor (exclusive or)<br \/>\n\u2200 = for all\/any\/each<br \/>\n\u2203 = there exists<br \/>\n\u22a2 = infers or is derived from<\/p>\n<p>I vaguely remember learning some of these in maths classes many moons ago and still haven&#8217;t quite recovered!
