From the context I guessed it meant that it was very windy.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waywordradio.org\/blow_a_hoolie\/\">A Way with Words<\/a>, to blow a hoolie means &#8216;(of weather) to storm; to forcefully gust, blow, and rain.&#8217; It is perhaps connected to hooley, which is defined by <em>Cassell\u2019s Dictionary of Slang<\/em> as &#8220;a rip-roaring party&#8221; and comes from Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/oed.com\/view\/Entry\/248679?redirectedFrom=hoolie#eid\">OED<\/a> suggests that hoolie \/hu(:)li\/ comes from the Orkney Scots word <em>hoolan<\/em> (strong gale), from an unattested Norn form of the Old Icelandic <em>\u00fdlun<\/em> (howling, wailing).<\/p>\n<p>Have you come accross this expression before, or do you use it?
